Pfizer, a global pharmaceutical leader, inaugurated its Open Innovation R&D Center in Shanghai's Pudong New Area on Oct 20, marking the 20th anniversary of its China R&D center in the area.

As one of the first multinational pharmaceutical companies to establish a presence in China, Pfizer is now deepening its commitment to focus on accelerating the transformation of local scientific research into practical outcomes. Drawing on resources from its R&D hubs in Beijing and Shanghai, the new center will provide capacity building and resource support to local hospitals and research institutions.

Pfizer's expert team will also share professional knowledge and best practices to enhance clinical research efficiency and promote the global development of medical innovations, underscoring the company's dedication to advancing China's healthcare sector and translating scientific breakthroughs into tangible benefits for patients.

Looking ahead, the company plans to unite industry, academia, and healthcare partners to advance an open, globally connected biopharmaceutical ecosystem.

Jean-Christophe Pointeau, senior vice-president of Pfizer and president of Pfizer China, emphasized the center's strategic importance. He said that its launch demonstrates the company's commitment to fostering local scientific innovation under the Pfizer China 2030 Strategy.

Chen Zhaohua, head of Development China and general manager of the Pfizer China R&D Center, added that it will leverage Pfizer's global R&D resources and expertise to address key challenges in China's clinical research landscape.
